Caretaker Guild
In our Moneyless Society, a guild is a decentralised, self-governing collective of workers that completely replaces corporate structures, private employers, and trade unions.
What is a guild?
Because basic survival needs are permanently decoupled from work, citizens do not sell their labour for wages, nor do they report to corporate bosses. Instead, they organise their time and expertise through four foundational, nationwide Caretaker Guilds. These guilds hold the sole mandate to train, practically certify, and supply skilled caretakers to organisations chartered by the government (the Joint Executive Council) to execute public social and infrastructure projects.
Crucially, guilds do not replace schools, colleges, or universities. Academic institutions continue to handle general education, intellectual cultivation, and theoretical research. The guilds act as the next stage in the pipeline—the guilds function as the applied vocational, certification, and human deployment engine of our Moneyless Society. Together, they create a seamless transition from the classroom to the field.
⚙️ How a Guild Functions Day-to-Day
The daily operations of a guild separate the training of workers from the top-down management of projects, operating entirely outside the financial market through four distinct mechanics:
- The Knowledge Multiplication Engine: Following graduation from a school, college, or university, students register with a guild. To translate their academic theory into practical mastery, they enter a peer-to-peer apprenticeship. When a master practitioner trains an apprentice, the master is rewarded with a residual percentage of that student’s future minted Contribution Value (CV) points for life, turning mentorship into a high-status activity. Once proficient, the apprentice's Digital Caretaker Pass is cryptographically stamped with a skill certification badge.
- Supplying Chartered Organisations: When a local government body like Hackney Council or a public utility trust receives a Material Allocation Pass from the Resource Treasury, they cannot hire staff. Instead, they log their labour deficit into the portal. The relevant guild reviews the technical requirements and pushes the project blocks directly onto its members' digital work boards.
- The Ultimate Labour Veto: Because all labour is completely voluntary, citizens choose which organisational deployments to claim based on personal passion or geographical proximity. If a guild’s workforce collectively finds an organization's project unethical or unappealing, they simply leave the task unassigned. A project sitting at 0% engagement triggers an automatic system freeze, forcing the government to manually alter its social plan.
- Real-Time Accounting via DPPs: While deployed to a chartered project, workers use tools and infrastructure tracked by Digital Product Passports (DPPs). Upon completion of a shift, the DPP scan verifies the labour, allowing the Resource Treasury to automatically credit the worker’s spendable Liquid Wallet and permanent Retirement Ledger, while updating their Social Credit Score based on their stewardship of the equipment.
