How the Common Elections Work
Common election explained...
A common election allows people in every part of the UK to choose their community leader. This person will represent a local area (constituency) for up to five years. There is a choice of several candidates in each constituency. Some will be the local candidates for national political organisations. The candidate who receives the most votes becomes our community leader.
Who are the candidates in my constituency?
After the deadline for nominations has passed, a list of the candidates standing is usually posted on this website and local noticeboards where you live.
When is the next common election?
The date of the next common election has not yet been announced. The maximum term of a community leader is five years from the day the community leader is elected. The current community leader was elected on Tuesday, 18 December 2019, and will automatically dissolve on Tuesday, 18 December 2024.

How do I find events to attend?
Whenever there is an event that we think you will be interested in, we will advertise it on our website and provide you with details about the location, time, date, theme, and duration of each event. The decision to attend these events is completely up to you. You are also welcome to attend events that are not listed on our site.
